Clay
surfaces
Natural clay. Natural colour. Tactile materiality.
Colour comes from the earth
Matteo Brioni’s clay surfaces begin with carefully selected clays from distinct geographical locations. In MB Terra Natural, colour comes from the clay itself – not from artificial pigmentation. Each shade therefore carries something of the place where the earth was sourced.
The palette comprises 21 natural standard colours. Subtle variations in the clay, together with the hand of the applicator and the light in the room, give the surface a living depth that cannot be standardised like an industrially coloured finish.
Tactile materiality
Tactile means that the material is experienced not only visually, but through its physical character. The surface has texture, depth and a presence that changes with the light and as you move through the room.
The clay is applied by hand in continuous layers. Subtle variations in texture and tone become particularly visible in grazing light, allowing the wall to act as part of the architecture – rather than simply as a painted backdrop.
Material, light & space
Hand-applied surfaces in which the colour of the earth, craftsmanship and light shape the final expression together.

MB Terra Natural
The principal product for residential walls and ceilings
MB Terra Natural is Matteo Brioni’s most natural clay plaster for interior walls and ceilings. A pure clay base is combined with a small proportion of bio-based binder and applied by hand to create a continuous surface.
MB Terra Natural Smooth has a calm, refined expression in which the clay’s natural colour and variations take centre stage. Other textures allow the surface to range from soft and restrained to coarser and more expressive. Colour and texture are selected through material samples for each individual project.
Guide price & ROT
Finished application of MB Terra Natural Smooth on a normally prepared substrate, for projects of approximately 20 m² or more in Sweden.
For eligible Swedish projects, ROT may deduct 30% of approved labour costs including VAT, up to SEK 50,000 per person per year. It does not apply to materials, travel or project costs. The final price and deduction depend on area, substrate, colour, scope, the client’s eligibility and remaining allowance. Extensive preparation, protection, travel or difficult access may affect the price. Areas below approximately 20 m² are quoted as a separate total project price.
Earth System
Where a project has different technical demands, clay-based systems preserve the material’s natural expression while adapting its performance to the intended use.
MB Terra Plus
A higher-performance clay plaster for commercial interiors as well as walls, ceilings, furniture, doors and three-dimensional elements. It can be used where occasional contact with water or steam may occur.
MB Terra Floor
Clay plaster adapted for continuous floors, including spaces subject to greater wear. The substrate, system build-up and protective treatment are assessed for each project.
Mineral Solutions
For wet areas, high-traffic environments, façades and other demanding surfaces, the clay range is complemented by mineral systems with the same continuous and tactile character.
MB Tecnica Wall & MB Tecnica Floor
Mineral plasters for demanding interiors and fully water-exposed surfaces. Wall is developed for walls, ceilings and built-in elements; Floor for floors. The system can be used in showers, around baths and basins when the complete build-up is specified correctly.
MB Materia
A mineral plaster for exterior walls and ceilings, developed to combine high durability with a raw, earth-like expression. It can also be used indoors to create material continuity between inside and out.
MB Storia
A traditional lime plaster for interiors and exteriors, particularly relevant when historic surfaces are to be interpreted, completed or recreated.
A decorative finish does not replace prescribed waterproofing. For wet areas, the complete system build-up is always assessed together with the applicator.
From material to finished surface
SUMISURA supports architects, interior designers, real estate developers and private clients throughout the process – from the first material idea to a completed, hand-applied surface.
We coordinate material selection, colour and texture samples, technical assessment of the substrate, quotation, ordering and logistics. Application is planned with a trained craftsperson so that the material, system and execution suit the way the space will be used.
